Profile: Division Clothing

James (Revolution): Division Clothing has been around for some time now, when did it first originate and who is behind Division? What is the meaning for your name "Division"?

Division GraphicBrent (Division): Division has been around for a little while. We started with the idea around 1998. At that time there weren't many rollerblade clothing companies around. So, my brother Bryan and I decided that we wanted to start up our own thing. Division means to divide or to seperate, it's for those who are down for rollerblading.

James (Revolution): You guys put a lot of effort into making Division happen. From designing logos, handling your own distribution, providing customer service, managing your team, and working seperate jobs. Then each time we contact you, you guys are always on top of it. What is the motivation behind Division? What keeps you going?

Brent (Division): Just to provide a good clothing company for everyone out there. Starting a business from absolutely nothing is one of the hardest things you can ever try to do. We do our best to try and balance all the duties of running a company between two people and both also work normal jobs. But we have been around from almost 5 years now. So that has to say something.

James (Revolution): Division's logos have a fresh appeal to them that sets them apart. Some logos follow graffiti art, and some seem like there is a meaning behind the logo. What inspires some of the designs you create? What influences your ideas?

Brent (Division): As far as logos go, some have a meaning behind them, and some are just really cool to look at. We try to come with a lot of different styles for designs. We don't want you to be able to pin down our style and say Division is 'this kind of company' or 'that kind of company'. As far as inspiration for designs, we are really influenced by street art. Wheatpasting, stickers, and graffiti. People like Dalek, Obey, and Space Invaders, or just any city you walk around. New York and San Francisco are my favorites.

James (Revolution): You guys have experience with producing clothing, and have acutally printed your own shirts. How has this helped you produce new lines of clothing for Division?

Brent (Division): We don't actually print our stuff anymore although we do have experience with screen printing. But we do all of our embroidery. Expect to see some really cool applique's soon. Also, we have a full line of cut and sew items such as denim, button-ups, beanies, and new T's all ready to come out real soon.

James (Revolution): Division is envolved with supporting rollerblading, you guys sponsor events, comps, etc. It reflects the kind of company you are. Do you follow a certain philosophy for Division?

Brent (Division): We just love rollerblading, that's the bottom line. We try to support everything that we can.

James (Revolution): Who are the skaters on the team? How do you feel about these skaters being a part of Division? Can we expect to see a team video?

Brent (Division): The team is Eric Schrijn, Brian Hamm, Eric Perkett, and Ryan Purcell. We had a couple guys go and pursue other things with their companies, and we wish them the best. The people that are on Division are on because they want to be on. They want to be involved with the company and they want to see it grow. As far as a video, ideas are still in the works. We just want to come proper. For now, check out our ads in Life Plus 5, Film, KFC 3, and Esco Zoo Media videos.

James (Revolution): You guys come out with some unique logos that are constantly progressing and evolving. What direction do you see Division going this year? What future plans do you have?

Brent (Division): A lot more custom sew items. New techniques in screen printing. Many more things which I don't want to say but if you keep your eyes open you will see. Look out for www.divisionclothing.com new site ready to drop.

James (Revolution): You cannot tell how far you've come unless you look back to see where you've started. Who do you want to thank for helping you get to where you are today?

Brent (Division): Thanks to Revolution for the interview, Division Team 2003, Esco Zoo Media, Mark Rankin, Bonch Crew, and all the heads out there who support us. Peace.
